Oedipus is completely fated. He simply has no free choice. Agree or disagree with this statement.

The popular and famous aphorism states that: Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved. Indeed, Oedipus is completely fated but he HAS free choice. Thus, I disagree with the aforementioned declaration. To believe that Oedipus is morally responsible for what happened to life is an enchanted story that everyone must consider. For instance, we want to consider that if we behave well, fate will be kind, but we all know that is not true. Evil kills good people and bad alike. Thus, fate is indifferent to our notions of right and wrong. For Oedipus, he can change his destiny by listening to the prophecy of Teiresias. He has a choice. It is a long-established belief that a person upon his/her birth has a destined life ahead. Indeed it is true but the gift of free will and the ability of people to choose over right and wrong can extremely influence his/her choices in life or even his/her so-called destiny. What he/she wants to become, what he/she wants to achieve and do in the future is dependent on how he/she work out his/her own ways and means considering the principles of good over bad. Oedipus is fated but if he only recognized the truth, he will not commit such wrongful actions. Fate is directly upon a person’s action towards the materialization of what he/she decide to become – for goodness or wickedness. Coupled with the ability to be rational and powered by freewill, Oedipus like every other individual can turn things the way they want them to be.
